Jointly funded through the Australian Government Future Drought Fund and Western Australia's Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, this program was designed to support and strengthen the beekeeping and northern horticulture industries.

The 2025 Program featured a series of in-person workshops covering the following topics:

Day 1: Strategic planning for your business

Day 2: Benchmarking and financial data driven decisions

Day 3: Innovation and planning for climate challenges

Day 4: Building personal and social resilience

In addition to attending the workshops, participants also received one-on-one business coaching to support the development of their own tailored Farm Business Resilience Plan.

As part of the program delivery, we have prepared seven case studies, which we are pleased to share with you.

KEEP THE BEES BUZZING

Keep the Bees Buzzing is a Bee Industry Council of WA (BICWA) initiative, funded by the Agriculture Produce Commission (APC), to boost biosecurity in Western Australia’s beekeeping sector.

The project focuses on increasing awareness and use of alcohol wash testing – a vital tool in detecting Varroa Mite, one of the biggest threats to bees. Through targeted education and resources, the program will help beekeepers, equipment suppliers, and the wider community understand best-practice biosecurity, the Beekeeping Code of Practice, and the importance of pest and disease reporting.

This work supports stronger industry compliance, more beekeeper registrations, and improved preparedness, while also building on BICWA’s broader efforts in research, hive tracking, economic analysis, and strategies to keep WA Varroa Mite free.
